Musical theater workshops offered

Bronx House School for Performing Arts will be offering a Musical Theater Workshop for students ages 8 to 12 beginning Saturday, September 12. The new program introduces songs from kid-favorite Broadway musicals like Annie, Bye Bye Birdie, Hairspray, and others. Workshops include theater games, improvisation, basic vocal skills and dance technique. Each 15-week session will end with a final performance on the last day of class.

The program will be directed by theater professionals Katya Stanislavskaya and Kelly Jean Graham. Stanislavskaya holds an MFA from NYU in Musical Theatre Writing as well as an MM in Piano Accompanying from Temple University. She has taught for the Usdan Center for the Arts and Education through Music and served as Musical Director for the Amas Musical Theater Academy, Prince Theater Cabaret and Voorhees Children’s Theater, among others.

Graham holds a BA in Theatre and Dance from Susquehanna University and has performed with Artspower National Touring Theater and Walnut Street Theater. She teaches musical theater and drama at Broadway Bound Kids and Groove with Me Dance Studio in Harlem.

The school is also accepting registration for other fall group music and dance classes, including the new Children’s Chorus and Rock Band programs. Classes are offered for all ages on Mondays through Saturdays. Group music classes include pre-school music appreciation and pre-instrumental classes in piano and violin as well as beginner piano or guitar for age six to twelve. Ongoing registration is also available for private instruction in piano, guitar, voice, violin, drums, cello and other instruments. Dance classes offered include Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Flamenco, Bellydance, Swing/Ballroom and Latin.
