Community Code of Conduct

Welcome to the conversation. Our goal is to maintain a space where Bronxites can debate, discuss, and dive deeper into the stories that matter to our neighborhoods. To keep this community productive and welcoming, all users must adhere to the following standards.

1. Respect Your Neighbors

We encourage vigorous debate, but personal attacks, name-calling, and harassment will not be tolerated. Focus on the content of the article, not the character of your fellow commenters.

2. Keep it Local & Relevant

The Bronx Times is a community resource. Please keep your comments related to the topic of the article. Off-topic rants, “copy-pasta,” or hijacking threads to discuss unrelated grievances may be removed.

3. Zero Tolerance for Hate

We do not permit speech that attacks, threatens, or insults individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age.

4. No Spam or Self-Promotion

The comments section is not a billboard. Do not post advertisements, promotional links, or repetitive “spam” content. If you have a business to promote, please contact our advertising department.

5. Privacy & Safety

Do not post private information about yourself or others (addresses, phone numbers, or private emails). “Doxxing” is grounds for an immediate and permanent ban.

6. Factuality & Integrity

While everyone is entitled to an opinion, deliberately spreading misinformation or impersonating others (including Times staff or public figures) undermines the community.

How We Moderate

To keep our team focused on bringing you the news, we utilize a mix of automated filters and human oversight:

  • Community Flagging: We rely on you. If you see a comment that violates these rules, use the “Report” button.
  • The “Three Strikes” Rule: Minor violations will result in a warning. Serious or repeat offenses will result in a temporary or permanent suspension of commenting privileges.
  • Moderator Authority: Our admins (Frank & Lesley) have the final say in maintaining the quality of the discussion.

Note: By commenting on BxTimes.com, you agree to these terms. Let’s keep the conversation civil, smart, and quintessentially the Bronx.
