Council Member Rafael Salamanca Jr. partnered with the NYCHA Bronx River Community Center, located at 1619 E. 174th St., to host a free coat and toy distribution event for Bronx children on Saturday, Jan. 25.

A total of 275 coats and 400 toys were distributed during the event, which was held in conjunction with the Bronx River Houses’ “Community Game Day.” Alongside the distribution, Community Game Day offered a variety of family-friendly activities and competitions for residents to enjoy.

“With so many families in my district being hit hard by our city’s ever-growing cost-of-living crisis, it’s important that we give back to our communities and ensure that our kids are equipped with the necessary protective gear to stay warm and healthy,” Council Member Salamanca said. “Helping our parents has been a key priority for me during my time in office, so I am grateful to Bronx River Houses’ TA President Norma Saunders for partnering with my office to host this free coat and distribution during their Community Game Day. With the allure of the holiday season now over, I hope others will be inspired in their own ways to continue giving back.”

Salamanca represents New York City’s 17th Council District, which encompasses the South Bronx neighborhoods of Mott Haven–Port Morris, Melrose, Hunts Point, Longwood, North and South Brother Islands, Morrisania, Crotona Park East, Concourse–Concourse Village, West Farms and Soundview–Bruckner–Bronx River.
