Bronx Sailor Serves in Philippine Sea Aboard USS Pioneer

Pictured in the Phillipene Sea is U.S. Navy Quartermaster 1st Class Elvis Ortiz, from our borough, who raises a flag onto the mast of the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Pioneer as it transits through the Philippine sea.

Pioneer, part of Mine Countermeasure Squadron 7, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response platform for contingency operations.
