St. Joe’s Vikings trump Fordham Rams 53-14

On Friday, September 26 the Fordham Rams hosted St. Joseph by the Sea. It was a rainy, cold night which made it perfect for football.

The first quarter began with the Vikings of St. Joseph scoring first. Lyle McCombs scored a 54 yard TD on a misdirection play in the opening minutes of the game and with a successful extra point kick, they led 7-0. With 2:32 left in the first, Andrew Armato scored another TD for St. Joe’s, this time a 49-yard carry that put them up 13-0 going into the second quarter.

The Rams started the second playing very poor defense. From 2nd and Goal, McCombs ran a TD and after a successful conversion, the Vikings led 21-0. The quarter continued this way, with St. Joe’s dominated Fordham on offense and taking advantage of the Rams’ poor defensive skills. With 3:32 left in the half, McCombs scored his third TD of the game to put the Vikings up 27-0 into halftime.

The second half began with Fordham looking to make up for lost time. With only one minute passing into the third quarter, Bruce Grant scored Fordham’s first TD. With the successful extra point kick, Fordham was on the board, 27-7. The momentum did not last long as St. Joe’s would score another two TDs, both by Theodore Clohessy.

The fourth quarter started with Nick Aimetti scoring another TD for the Vikings. They would score another by Aimetti before it was over and Fordham would add a TD of their own by Brendan McGlynn. However, the damage was done and St. Joseph would win 53-14 when it was all said and done.

“We had a horrible performance today,” said head coach Peter Gorynski, “It was an extraordinary loss and we will be working to resolve the issues we are encountering.” Gorynski noted that he will analyze the game footage and build on his healthy players, as several have gone down since the beginning of the season leaving them down to 27.
