Elected officials and business leaders will host a celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 14, to mark the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Mall at Bay Plaza.
The celebration will occur on Level 3 of the mall, which is located at 200 Baychester Ave., near the food court. It will kick off five days of events, promotions, and live performances.
The festivities on Wednesday will begin at 11:45 a.m. with a special performance by the Bronx Arts Ensemble featuring Yahaya Kamat. Shoppers can enjoy various events throughout the day, including live music, dancing, and fashion displays from local designers. The anniversary will also feature over 50 stores and restaurants providing discounts and promotions over the five days.
In addition to the entertainment, the first 1,000 shoppers will receive custom totes and t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “We Are the Bronx,” courtesy of Bronx Native. These items were manufactured and printed locally.
The day’s events will also feature speeches from prominent local leaders, including state Senators Jamaal Bailey and Nathalia Fernandez, Assembly Member Michael Benedetto and Council Member Kevin Riley. Amaurys Grullon, a creative entrepreneur and owner of Bronx Native, will also address the crowd.
The Mall at Bay Plaza has been a cornerstone of the area since its opening on Aug. 14, 2014. It has brought in over 100 retail shops, many of which were the first of their kind in the borough. Anchored by Macy’s and JCPenney, the mall has become a hub for shopping, dining, and entertainment, serving as a vital economic driver for the area.
The mall boasts a 160,000-square-foot Macy’s and a JCPenney as anchor tenants. It is home to over 100 retail shops, including Apple, UNIQLO, H&M, Victoria’s Secret, Kay Jewelers, Gap, and Aéropostale, many of which marked their Bronx debut at the mall.
