A Bronx teenager was fatally shot after a dispute escalated into violence on Thursday afternoon in Melrose, according to authorities.

Police from the 40th Precinct say 17-year-old Laquai Dash, of St. Ann’s Avenue in Mott Haven, was part of a group that was involved in a dispute over a social media post at Cauldwell Avenue and East 158 Street in Melrose, near the Grove Hill Playground and P.S. 157, at approximately 4:15 p.m. on March 7 when he was shot in the neck, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the case.

EMS arrived at the scene and transported the teenager to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was pronounced dead.

Reports indicate that Dash may have been targeted in the shooting, but a police spokesperson could not confirm that when contacted by the Bronx Times Friday morning.

The spokesperson said there is no suspect at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.
