101-years-old March 2nd
Bessie Smith celebrated her 101st birthday on Thursday, March 2 with a party at Moringside Nursing Home, where she resides.
Her granddaughter reports: At the nursing home they call her the lady that wants to kiss and hug everyone. She is always telling everyone she loves them no matter what race (they are). My grandmother is not famous but she is loved by so many people. She would always tell us that she would rather be loved than be rich (because) you can run out of money but can never run out of love.
