Notable Passing
It is with great sadness that the Warriors Football League, a youth football program in the east part of the borough, announces the loss of one it is board members. Jeff Ortiz, who was 64-years-old, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 8.
From the Warriors: Jeff served proudly as a member of the Board of the Warriors Football League.
He worked right up to his final hours to keep the Warriors going strong.
Jeff was a kind, soft spoken big man with a bigger heart. He loved his family above all else.
Besides the Warriors, Jeff loved the Giants, Mets and ‘rock n’ roll.’ He was an avid concert-goer.
Besides his love for football, Jeff coached baseball at Pelham Bay Little League and at Cardinal Spellman High School.
He continued to stay close with his former Warrior teammates until his final days. Jeff will be truly missed.
Paul A. Golluscio of Scarsdale, NY passed away on September 10, 2018. Paul was known to many as “Buddy” and “Doc”. He was raised in the Bronx with his brother Charles and is predeceased by his mother Antoinette (Nettie) and father Armond (Eddie). He leaves behind Marion and three stepdaughters Lucia, Rosemarie and Kim. He was a cherished grandfather to Loren and great-grandfather to Isaiah. Paul had a distinguished 27-year career in the Army Reserves rising to the rank of Sergeant Major. While serving his country, Paul became known as “Doc,” opening a chiropractic office in the Bronx. Paul was active with The Samuel H. Young American Legion Post 620 for 29 years serving in various capacities as secretary, senior member and on the executive committee. In more recent years, you would find him serving drinks at The Post every Friday while sharing stories and jokes. Paul also taught gun and safety courses as well as golf for inner city kids. He wrote a weekly column for the Bronx Times Reporter offering his wit and wisdom. His biggest passion, however, was supporting all veterans and volunteered for many veteran causes, serving as an advocate and friend. One of Paul’s many accolades was being honored by the 2017 Chippewa’s Democratic Club with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with veterans. Whether you knew him as Buddy, Doc, Papa or Paul, he will be missed by many. In honor of Paul’s wishes there will be no funeral service. He will be laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery in Riverhead, NY. Donations in his honor can be made to The Samuel H. Young American Legion Post 620, 1530 Hutchinson River Parkway, Bronx, NY 10461.
