Local leaders and Albanian American community members united in celebrating Kosova’s historic independence from Serbia. Hosted by the Albanian American Society Foundation, Sons and Daughters of Albania in America and Fordham University, the Sunday, February 14 event commemorated the 8th anniversary of Kosova’s independence by paying tribute to its national heroes Isa Boletini, Adem Jashari, Tahir Sinani and Agim Ramadani. Held inside Keating Hall’s first floor auditorium, the yearly ceremony featured distinguished guests from the Albanian American community who participated in a panel discussion regarding the future of the independent nation. In addition, AASF members were presented with proclamations issued by Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. to honor the recently formed nation’s distinguished heroes. A live orchestra performed traditional Albanian music.
