Nearly $3,100 to rent an ‘affordable’ Bronx studio; city launches housing lottery for units in Fordham apartment building

New York City has launched a housing lottery for 20 units in a 5-story residential building at 114 East 198th St. in the Fordham section of the Bronx.

The building consists of 20 units, all of which have been set aside for those earning 130% of the area median income. Seventeen of these units are studios, with a monthly rent of $3,069.

The studios are meant for up to two people in each unit, with a combined annual salary ranging from $105,223-$161,590. The remaining three units are one-bedroom and have a monthly rent of $3,253. Households of up to three people are allowed to reside in those units, so long as their combined annual income is between of $111,532-$181,740.

Amenities in each unit include high-end kitchen appliances, countertops and finishes, air-conditioning and intercommunication devices. The building also features a shared laundry room, security cameras and an elevator. Tenants will be responsible for electricity, including stove, heating and hot water.

All applicants must meet the housing and income requirements. New York City residents will receive a general preference for the units. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online by Dec. 10. Qualified applicants will also be required to meet additional selection criteria.

Duplicate applications are not permitted. Only one can be sent per lottery, either online or by mailing a paper application. Those who submit more than one application could be disqualified.
