Bandits vie for title

The Pelham Bay Bandits’ playoff run began Saturday, November 1, with a 13-4 victory vs. Bobby Valentine’s Baseball Academy team in the quarter-final round.

In their past three runs, the Bandits have gained important experience at every playoff level, losing in the quarter-finals of the 2007 fall season, in the semi-finals of the 2007 summer season and most recently in the championship of the 2008 summer season.

Joey Signore’s arm (6 IP, 7 K’s) and bat (3-run HR, 2-run 2B) led the way for the Bandits. Kevin Hernandez (2-run HR) and Nino Giardino (2-run 1B) also came up big for Pelham Bay.

In the semi-final round, manager Dom Caggiano will give the ball to big-game pitcher Kevin Hernandez. Hernandez (7-0, 1.60 ERA) has dominated all year and gives the Bandits a great shot to get back to the championship.
