Serving His Country

A borough native is serving in the U.S. Navy as a member of the ‘Airwolves.’

Petty Officer 1st Class Esmelin Villar is a naval tactical helicopter aircrewman with the ‘Airwolves’ of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron based in Mayport, Florida.

He works aboard a MH-60R Seahawk helicopter. This type of equipment is used Anti-Surface Warfare helicopter and also for submarines.

It can travel over 120 miles per hour for nearly 320 miles on a full tank of fuel.

Pfc. Manuel De La Rosa Villa, a Marine from the Bronx and originally from the Dominican Republic, recently earned his U.S. citizenship.
