Kids in Motion is a program hosted by NYC Parks staff that engages children in active, outdoor play. Staff members lead four to seven hours of free activities in NYC’s playgrounds, including organized sports, games, fitness demos, board games, water games and more! Families are invited to join the fun this Friday at Ben Abrams Playground.

Nighttime Creepy Crawlies

Wave Hill House

Free with admissions to the grounds

What sort of bugs come out at night? Families are invited to the Wave Hill House to find out! Discover the different insects that come out during summer evenings. Participants will use paper mâché methods to transform up-cycled materials into handmade creepy crawly models. Registration is not required.

Explore the dynamic relationships between nature, culture, and site with solo and group exhibitions at the Glyndor Gallery. Gallery Greeters lead public exhibition tours on Saturdays at 2 p.m. when exhibitions are on display in the spring, summer and fall. Visitors can expect an in-depth look at artworks on view in Glyndor Gallery and in the Sunroom Project Space, showcasing the work of both emerging and established artists in the unique context of a public garden. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Movies under the stars: Wonka

Grab a blanket and come to Bronx Park to enter a world of pure imagination! NYC Parks and the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment are hosting family-friendly movie showings all summer long. This Saturday, “Wonka” will begin at dusk. The movie is free and open to the public. “Wonka” is rated PG and follows the story of Willy Wonka, the famous but eccentric chocolatier based on the character from Roald Dahl’s novel. This film acts as a prequel to the 1971 film adaptation of Dahl’s novel.

Latin American Foto Festival

The Bronx Documentary Center’s annual Latin American Foto Festival (LAFF) is coming to a close this Sunday. Featured large-scale photographs by emerging, established, and award-winning photographers will be on display until Sunday. All are welcome to join closing show and block party this Sunday. Ballet Folklorico de Ramon Romero and Carmen Lienqueo are set to perform during the afternoon. The event will feature free portraits, exhibition tours in both English and Spanish, family-friendly activities and games, face painting, arts and crafts and sports.
