Opening celebration of Dianne Smith: Two Turntables & a Microphone

July 7, 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

Join the Bronx Museum for an opening celebration of Dianne Smith’s new site-specific multimedia installation featuring a live performance from legendary rapper Slick Rick. On the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, the exhibition aims to celebrate Black joy and expressions of identity that hip-hop has enabled through its power to help foster community. Ebony G. Patterson exhibition

Ebony G. Patterson brings her signature mixed media installations to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and NYBG’s landscape and galleries. Immerse yourself in the beauty of exotic flora and garden-inspired installations, such as a peacock sculpture and glitter-encrusted vultures. Patterson’s work invites visitors to reflect on their relationships with the natural world while also provoking questions around race, gender and colonialism. The Community Healthcare Network is putting on the Bronx Career Fair as the first Pride Month career fair at the Bronx Health Center. The fair is open to all job seekers, although it is specifically open to members of the LGBTQ+ community. The Community Healthcare Network will be recruiting for a plethora of positions such as human resources associates, medical office specialist, IT support specialist, social worker and many more. Latin American Foto Festival Opening Reception

July 13, 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

The Bronx Documentary Center is holding its 6th annual Latin American Foto Festival from July 13 to 30, which features large-scale photographs by emerging and established, award-winning photographers. The photographs will be displayed throughout the South Bronx’s Melrose neighborhood. The festival will include works from Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela which represent long-term projects on missing persons, femicides, indigenous people’s rights and more. The Bronx Documentary Center will also be holding in-person workshops, tours, panel discussions and other community events. Bronx Hip-Hop Walk: 50 Years of Rebellion!

June 24, July 8, 22 and Aug. 5, 1 p.m.-3 p.m.

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop with the Justice Center en el Barrio and the Party for Socialism & Liberation with educational classes, walking tours and public celebrations. Learn about how hip-hop has been a product of the changing world and a catalyst for social change over the past five decades. Furthermore, the programs hope to acknowledge the constant battle within hip-hop that reflects our society’s battle between the poor and rich. Discuss the radical working class roots of hip-hop and join the Bronx walking tours every other Saturday from June 24 to Aug. 5 starting at 1 p.m. at the corner of East 149 Street and Grand Concourse. Pelham Bay Park

Movies Under the Stars: “Minions: Rise of Gru”

June 21, 9 p.m.-11:45 p.m.

Come to the north picnic area of Pelham Bay Park for a movie under the stars. Bring a blanket, some snacks and the entire family for a viewing of “Minions: Rise of Gru.” This summer, NYC Parks and the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment will host family-friendly movie showings across the five boroughs. Movies begin at dusk and are free for everyone.

 

Pride run

Pride 5K presented by Mile Style

June 28, 6 p.m.

Run, walk or jog through the streets of the Bronx at the pride 5K event. Mile Style hopes to celebrate the love, diversity and inclusivity of the LGBTQ+ community while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. The 5K will start at Sankofa Haus in Mott Haven. People of all ages and abilities are invited to the run, where everyone should expect to have a fun journey through the South Bronx. There will even be biodegradable confetti cannons, free Mile Style merch and more. Don’t forget to wear colorful attire to support the LGBTQ+ community. At the end of the run, there will be food, drinks and a brief panel discussion with members of the LGBTQ+ running community. RSVP here.

Hostos College

Introduction to portrait photography

June 22, 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

The Bronx Council on the Arts invites you to a free, in-person photography workshop at the Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos College. Students in the workshop will learn basic concepts of portrait photography such as how to use light to enhance photos and how to use props to strengthen a photo. During the workshop, students will use what they have learned by photographing each other and the surrounding environment. The workshop is part of the Youth Engagement Program, and is open to participants between the ages of 11 and 24. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. Reserve a spot here.

Hidden Gems Walking Tour

June 24, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.

NYC Parks GreenThumb and Bronx Community Board 6 invite you to experience the Bronx’s hidden gem community gardens with a walking tour through Belmont. As part of the tour, visitors will get to meet the gardeners and volunteers who have contributed to creating the gardens. Tour guides will highlight many areas of interest such as food production, events space and flower and vegetable beds. Walking tour stops include the Farm in the Bronx and Cook Community Farm. The walk will culminate at Bathgate Community Garden in Tremont for a meet and greet of community members. Learn more and get free tickets here.

 

Bronx Brewery

Passion Players: A celebration supporting Bronx and uptown creatives

July 1, 3 p.m.-10 p.m.

In partnership with the Bronx Brewery, Studio 3 NYC is hosting the second iteration of Passiona Players – a curated run-of-show consisting of Bronx- and uptown-based DJs and performers – in the Bronx Brewery’s backyard. In addition to providing the event space, the Brewery is also donating a portion of the proceeds to the bar to contribute to Studio 3 NYC’s community fundraising goal to foster creativity, inclusivity and connection.
