Fish Parade & Arts Festival

June 17, 12 p.m.-5 p.m.

Attend the 20th anniversary of the Fish Parade & Arts Festival – an annual procession through Hunts Point. Intended to connect the community to the Bronx River, the family-friendly parade combines environmental activism and community building. Make your own banners, costumes and puppets to represent marine life at the fish parade. The procession culminates in an arts festival featuring live music, dancing and craft activities. This year’s anniversary theme is Rooted Visions, intended to honor and draw inspiration from those who came before us for a brighter future for the Bronx.

Free Community Paddling in Starlight Park

June 17, 11 a.m-3 p.m.

Join the Bronx River Alliance for a free community paddling event at Starlight Park. Both large canoes and smaller kayaks will be available at this beginner- and family-friendly event, making it possible for anyone to join. Registration isn’t required, but the event is first come, first served, so be sure to get there early.

Bronx Yoga Summit

June 24, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Join Bronx Holistic Healing at 174th Street and Southern Boulevard at Boston Road for the Bronx Yoga Summit. Yoga enthusiasts at all levels are welcome to participate. Those who attend will learn about yoga studios and resources throughout the Bronx. The event also features a panel discussion called “Break It Down: What Is Yoga?” and an exhibition hall that will feature yoga, healing and wellness products.

Van Cortlandt Park

Super Seedlings event

June 17, 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m.

Children ages 3-7 accompanied by an adult are invited to Van Cortlandt Park to dig, plant and do crafts together. Kids are encouraged to experience nature within the Bronx through hands-on play with an emphasis on learning to care for the environment around them.

Juneteenth celebration

June 19, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

The Van Cortlandt Park Alliance and the Bronx Arts Ensemble are hosting a free event to celebrate Juneteenth. The event will begin on the deck of the Van Cortlandt Gold House with music and spoken word performances. Then there will be a drum procession to the Enslaved African Burial Ground at which there will be a libation ceremony in memory of the enslaved African people who built Van Cortlandt Park.

 

Agnes Haywood Playground

Skate party in the Bronx

June 23, 4 p.m.-7 p.m.

Join NYC Parks and Councilmember Kevin Riley for a skate party at Agnes Haywood Playground in Williamsbridge. There will also be music and dancing. Skates will be provided for attendees while supplies last, so feel free to bring your own.

Bronx Rockets speed-walking

June 14, 21 and 28, 6 p.m.-7 p.m.

The Bronx Rockets, a community walk/run group in the Bronx, is offering their speed-walking club every Wednesday evening. The organization focuses on community wellbeing by offering participants an alternative to running that helps get people in shape while relieving stress from the day. Meet up at Joseph Yancey Track and Field park across from Yankee Stadium. The group also offers morning walks or runs on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. at Rev. T. Wendell Foster Park (also known as Mullaly’s Park).

Ebony G. Patterson exhibition

June to Sept. 17, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Ebony G. Patterson brings her signature mixed media installations to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and NYBG’s landscape and galleries. Immerse yourself in the beauty of exotic flora and garden-inspired installations, such as a peacock sculpture and glitter-encrusted vultures. Patterson’s work invites visitors to reflect on their relationships with the natural world while also provoking questions around race, gender and colonialism. Juneteenth weekend event

June 17 to 19, 12 p.m.-5 p.m.

Join the New York Botanical Garden for a weekend-long Juneteenth celebration, featuring a myriad of activities and programs. There will be hands-on gardening, crafts and activities at the Edible Academy campus. In addition, special guests will put on cooking demonstrations. The African American Garden: The Caribbean Experience – a garden meant to highlight Caribbean stories of resilience, resistance and migration – will be opening June 17 in time for the Juneteenth celebration. Reimagine the Cross Bronx: Issue Identification Workshop

June 14, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Attend these workshops to help reimagine the Cross Bronx by helping to define the most urgent issues facing the area and surrounding communities. The goal of these workshops is to help connect and ameliorate communities across the expressway corridor. Join chief curator emeritus of the Bronx Museum Sergio Bessa, artist and scholar Allen Frame and the late mixed-media artist Darrel Ellis’ sister Laure Banks in a conversation about the new exhibition Darrel Ellis: Regeneration. The exhibition is co-organized by The Baltimore Museum of Art and The Bronx Museum and focuses on Ellis’ work surrounding Black selfhood and domesticity. RSVP for the free event here.

Film and archive screening: “Cosmos Gate and Azul”

Hidden Gems Walking Tour

NYC Parks GreenThumb and Bronx Community Board 6 invite you to experience the Bronx’s hidden gem community gardens with a walking tour through Belmont. As part of the tour, visitors will get to meet the gardeners and volunteers who have contributed to creating the gardens. Tour guides will highlight many areas of interest such as food production, events space and flower and vegetable beds. Walking tour stops include the Farm in the Bronx and Cook Community Farm. Bronx Brewery

Passion Players: A celebration supporting Bronx and uptown creatives

July 1, 3 p.m.-10 p.m.

In partnership with the Bronx Brewery, Studio 3 NYC is hosting the second iteration of Passiona Players – a curated run-of-show consisting of Bronx- and uptown-based Djs and performers – in the Bronx Brewery’s backyard. In addition to providing the event space, the Brewery is also donating a portion of the proceeds to the bar to contribute to Studio 3 NYC’s community fundraising goal to foster creativity, inclusivity and connection.
