Celebrate Bronx Pets Day at Franz Sigel Park’s Dog Run. Responsible pet owners and enthusiastic animal lovers will have access to dog licensing and grooming services along with education on pet waste management. There will also be lots of fun activities, like arts and crafts, music, games and even a dog trick contest!

Lehman Center for the Performing Arts

Los Van Van

May 26, 8 p.m.

Experience a night of Cuban music with Los Van Van. The “genre-creating band” has toured the globe and will be performing their unique take on Cuban music at Lehman Center. Learn more about the show and get tickets here.

“INVINCIBLE: A Tribute to Michael Jackson”

May 27, 8 p.m.

Celebrate Michael Jackson’s musical legacy with a special tribute concert dedicated to him at Lehman Center. Woodlawn Cemetery

Concert: “For Ibrahim With Love”

June 11, 3 p.m.

Celebrate the life of the late creative Ibrahim Gonzalez with an afternoon of music at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Gonzalez was an accomplished video producer, photographer and radio host, in addition to being a percussionist, pianist, composer and music producer. This free concert by The Mambo Dervish Jazz Ensemble is a memorial to his life and work. Learn more about Gonzalez and the event and get tickets here.

 

Pelham Bay Park

Spring Wildflower Walk

May 28, 1 p.m.-2 p.m.

Embrace the season of spring on a relaxing and educational hike through Pelham Bay Park. Look at the variety of plants in bloom while learning how to identify all the different species of flowers around the park.

 

Bronx River

Free Community Paddling in Starlight Park

June 3 and 17, 11 a.m-3 p.m.

Join the Bronx River Alliance for a free community paddling event at Starlight Park. Both large canoes and smaller kayaks will be available at this beginner- and family-friendly event, making it possible for anyone to join. Registration isn’t required, but the event is first come, first served, so be sure to get there early.

Free Community Paddling in Concrete Plant Park

June 10, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Visit Concrete Plant Park for a free community paddling event hosted by the Bronx River Alliance. Canoes will be available for groups and kayaks will be available for individuals, making it possible for anyone to join this beginner- and family-friendly event. Registration isn’t required, but the event is first come, first served.

Gardening Tuesday

May 30, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Volunteer with the Bronx River Alliance every Tuesday to help maintain and beautify the Bronx River and the natural community spaces around it. Help remove litter and weeds while watering, mulching and planting new plants at a rain garden in Starlight Park. All tools and supplies will be provided by the Bronx River Alliance, but make sure to dress appropriately for outdoor activities.

 

Soundview Park

NYRR Open Run: Soundview Park

May 27, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Runners and walkers of all ages, abilities and experience levels are welcome to join the New York Road Runners at this free community event that takes place every Saturday through May. Stay active while exploring the neighborhood and admiring beautiful views of the Bronx River waterfront during your run.

 

Williamsbridge Oval

Concert: “Ray Blue Quintet”

June 2, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Experience a fresh jazz performance from New York-bred saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator Ray Blue at Williambridge Oval. The experienced musician will bring his “feel-good” music to the Bronx in partnership with the Jazz Foundation of America.

 

New York Botanical Garden

Bronx Community Partner Day: “…things come to thrive…in the shedding…in the molting…”

May 27, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

The New York Botanical Garden is offering complimentary tickets for Bronx residents to visit and experience “…things come to thrive…in the shedding…in the molting…,” an all-new exhibition by celebrated contemporary artist Ebony G. Patterson. Free tickets will be distributed on a first-requested, first-served basis, so make sure to request one soon.

Happy 25th Birthday Everett Children’s Adventure Garden 

May 24 – May 26, 10 am.-6 p.m.

Take your kids to visit the Everett Children’s Garden during the last week of its 25th anniversary celebration! Discover the history of the garden while participating in fun activities like singing to caterpillars, exploring leaf litter and pond life, having a birthday-themed tea party, and potting up your own Oxalis triangularis plant party favor to take home.

Public Gallery Tour

May 25 and 27, 2 p.m.-3 p.m.

View all of Wave Hill’s current exhibitions on display on a guided tour through Glyndor Gallery. Wave Hill visitors can see lots of artwork from both emerging and established artists and ask questions during the 45-minute tour. The tour is free with regular admission.

Family Art Project: Shake a Flower, Wear a Garden

May 27 and 28, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Kids are invited to learn about the importance of pollination through a fun arts and crafts workshop at Wave Hill. Create your own hat filled with flowers, bees and butterflies while learning about the important and interesting relationship between bugs and flowers in nature.

Family Art Project: Whimsical Windchimes for Summer

June 3 and 4, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Experience the beauty of wind chimes at this eco-friendly arts and crafts workshop at Wave Hill. Using a mix of natural and upcycled materials, kids will create their own wind chimes and learn about the rich history of the ornamental instrument.

Concert: “Sinfonietta of Riverdale”

June 4, 2 p.m.-3 p.m.

NYC Parks Presents: Skate Party in the Bronx

Join NYC Parks and Councilmember Eric Dinowitz for a fun afternoon skate party at Sputyen Duyvil Playground. In addition to skating, there will also be lots of music so you can dance the night away. Visitors are welcome to bring their own roller skates or just borrow a free pair while supplies last.

Sun Print/Cyanotype Photography

Discover the magic of sun printing at the Bronx Library Center! Teens will learn how to make a cyanotype — an old type of photographic print that uses a special UV-sensitive blue ink, some objects of your choosing and the power of sunlight — to create beautiful images. Create your own unique design while learning about the history of photography.

Visit the Bronx Library Center for a fun afternoon of photography! Take some photos or have your photo taken on the library’s outdoor terrace while learning about how to make the most of natural lighting.

Teen Fashion Workshop Series

June 10, 12 p.m.-2 p.m.

Teens are invited to participate in the third week of a five-week, beginner-friendly fashion workshop series in celebration of Bronx fashion. Young fashion lovers looking for knowledge and experience in the industry will learn all about casting calls, basic poses and other fashion-related tips as part of these workshops. The series will end with a real fashion show in October, where participants will get to show off everything they’ve learned!

The Grand Concourse Library will present a lecture and demonstration of various salsa music instruments in collaboration with Jose Obando of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Attend this event to experience a live musical demonstration of these salsa instruments and learn about their history and evolution through the lens of 11 different academic subjects.

Teens are invited to The New York Public Library’s annual Anti-Prom at the Grand Concourse Library! Choose to just show up and relax in the company of others, or go all out and dance the night away!
