The Bronx will honor U.S. Veterans Sunday Nov. 10, 2024, with the 40th annual Bronx Veterans Day Parade in Throggs Neck.

The parade will kick off at noon at Lafayette and Tremont Ave. and march along Tremont Avenue, Randall Avenue and the Throggs Neck Expressway to culminate in a ceremony at the Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park.

The parade coincides with the 249th birthday of the United States Marine Corps the day before Veterans Day on Nov. 11. This year’s Bronx Veterans Day Parade theme “Global War on Terrorism – The Mission Continues.” In 2023, the world saw its worst year since 2017 for terrorism related deaths – more than 8,500 deaths globally, according to the 2024 Global Terrorism Index from the Institute of Economics and Peace.

The parade will honor Grand Marshalls retired Major Jason Brezler, USMCR, and Corporal Joseph Ronda, USMCR. Both Grand Marshalls served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

In addition to serving as a U.S. veteran, retired Major Brezler serves NYC as a Captain in the FDNY and founder and President of Leadership Under Fire, an advisory team committed to preparing the leaders of tomorrow.

Cpl. Ronda serves as First Sergeant in the New York Guard and is the Commander of the Star of the Sea Cadets, a Community Youth Organization serving Bronx youth modeled after military youth programs. Corporal Ronda works for the Metropolitan Transit Authority. He first marched in the inaugural Bronx Veterans Day Parade in 1985 as a new recruit in the St. Frances de Chantal Sea Cadet Corps.

Veterans Day is celebrated on Nov. 11 to commemorate the temporary ceasefire between the Allied Powers and Germany during World War I in 1918 on “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month,” according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
