The Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade Talent Pageant was held on Saturday, Aug. 31, at P.S./I.S. 224: The Science School for Exploration and Discovery.
Organized by Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade board members and President Maribel Mercado, the pageant featured talented performers who showed off their skills at the school, located at 345 Brook Ave.
In addition to numerous volunteers and helpers, attendees for this event also included Maribel Mercado, Board Member and Pageant Coordinator Kenji Mercado, Board Member and American Gold Star Mother Emily Toro and Board Member Miriam Quinones.
In the kids portion of the talent pageant, Hailey Miriam Antonetti of Dorado, Puerto Rico, was named the winner, with Josephine Celia Serrano of Arecibo taking second place.
When it came to the adults’ pageant, Maria Mercedes Figueroa Rivera of San Juan took first place, followed by Lisbeth Marie Garcia Calaf of Ponce in second and Doris Nelva Martinez of Humacao in third.
The 38th annual Bronx Puerto Rico Day Parade is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning on the Grand Concourse, between East 164th Street and Mount Eden Avenue at 11 a.m.
In addition to the talent pageant, a gala is set to take place before the parade, on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 6p.m. in the Villa Barone Manor, located at 737 Throggs Neck Expwy. The gala will feature music and food, while also providing attendees with great opportunities for networking and celebrating.
