Bronx cops have cuffed the alleged gunman wanted for shooting a 2-year-old boy over the weekend.
Freddy Flores, 20, was taken into custody on April 1 at the New York County Criminal Court House in Lower Manhattan, where he appeared for an unrelated manner. He was subsequently slapped with attempted murder charges for the March 30 shooting in the Bronx.
Authorities reported that Flores allegedly had an ongoing dispute with another individual, whom he attempted to target near the corner of East Fordham Road and the Grand Concourse at around 1:44 p.m. on Saturday.
Flores allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire, but missed his target — and instead struck a 2-year-old tot in the buttocks, police said. The single shot apparently completely passed through youngster’s body, law enforcement sources noted.
EMS rushed the wounded child to Jacobi Hospital, where he was treated for his wound and is expected to recover.
A top police official postulated that the shooting may have been gang-related. Police also say that Flores has been previously cuffed in March 2023 for a grand larceny case.
He was scheduled to attend a Manhattan Justice Opportunities program in relation to the previous crime when police cuffed him Monday afternoon.
Flores is charged with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and assault.
