Council Member Kevin C. Riley held a street co-naming ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 10, to honor the late Louise Barnes Jackson, who was regarded as a pillar of the Edenwald community.
The ceremony, which took place at Laconia Avenue and East 225th Street, was held to pay tribute to Jackson for all that she did for the neighborhood before she died in 2021.
Affectionately known as “Nana Jackson,” she was viewed as a light in the community. Among her many contributions was serving as a board member for the Edenwald-Gun Hill Neighborhood Center, now known as the Edenwald Community Center.
Several community members came out for the ceremony to pay tribute to her.
Louise Barnes Jackson’s youngest son, Raymond Jackson, spoke about all that his mother did for the community. He thanked the attendees, including Council Member Riley and his staff, for honoring his mother.
