Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda and Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr. hosted a celebration at the New York Botanical Garden on Saturday, September 30 for youngsters who completed the Summer Reading Challenge by reading at least 15 minutes a day for approximately 40 days while on school break.
The winners received certificates of recognition from senators Diaz, Jeff Klein and Marisol Alcantara; assembly members Sepulveda, Marcos Crespo and Michael Blake; Mayor de Blasio; Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie; Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.; Congressman Adriano Espaillat and Community Board 9.
An artist expertly painted one of the summer scholars’ faces during the celebration.
