There is an exciting new restaurant in the Bronx at Hammond’s Cove, where the old Ice House used to be. The new establishment is called “Dakota’s on the Cove” and it is named after the owner’s daughter!
Dakota’s on the Cove owner Dave Schmitt created this new “Hamptons in the Bronx” restaurant with an upscale dining experience right on the water by the Throggs Neck Bridge, with a beautifully renovated venue with a full bar, inside dining, sunroom dining and a gorgeous outside patio with plans for live music and outside huge tent events!
The restaurant’s elevated menu of seafood, pastas and American fare are created fresh and plated exquisitely for each diner’s enjoyment!
Today I dined on a “Seared Tuna Tostada,” enough for two to share, with an artful tower of crispy tortilla, cherry tomatoes, avocado, chipotle mayo, frisse, lime vinaigrette and the star of the dish, the perfectly seared and flavorful strips of Tuna! We also shared the “Mozzarella and Corrozza,” which was fried mozzarella sandwich with a spicy and zesty red sauce for dipping! Other appetizers we want to try next visit will be the “Mussels Marinara” and their already acclaimed “Coconut Shrimp” and “Mini Beef Sliders.”
The entrees were amazing as well. My “Crab Cakes” were full of tender crab meat and served with two large cakes with lemon herb Mayo with micro greens and cherry tomatoes. The “Romano Crusted Chicken and Pasta” was a huge hit with my “ChickenParmaJohn” (if you know, you know). The chicken had a great crunchy coat and was juicy and delicious over linguine with a delicious tomato basil sauce! I can’t wait to return to try the “Seared Salmon with Citrus Glaze” and their “Sliced NY Strip Steak” which is a whole Steak dinner for $29!!!
I had a tough time choosing a cocktail from their unusual and vast list of cocktails but I’m an old fashion gal at heart and had to try their “Plum Old Fashion” sporting a perfect blend of Field and Sound Maritime Bourbon with Ume Plum Liquor and simple syrup!
Their charming manager Eric also treated me to their “Espresso on the Cove” their signature espresso martini! And I ended with a “Millionaire’s Coffee which was mixed perfectly!
I will have to return to try other cocktails such as their “Aperoni Spritz” and their “La Marina Margarita”. They have a full list of wines and beers featuring many Bronx Brews!
Our sweet and charming server Allie served us a decadent dessert of the “Chocolate Mousse Cake” that was so creamy, and sinfully satisfying! They also have cheesecake and Tiramisu.
Even though they just opened last week, this new gem, I predict, will be a Bronx sensation with a great staff, relaxed but classy ambiance and chef inspired cuisine that is priced reasonably, so you can dine here often without breaking the piggy bank! You will feel the “WOW” factor as soon as you step in the door!
Stop in this week and show your support and love—and fall in love!
