The tournament begins two weeks prior to the start of the U.S. Open and is the equivalent of AAA level professional baseball. Fourteen of the current top 50 ATP and WTA men’s and women’s singles players are GHI Bronx Tennis Classic alumni including Richard Gasquet of France (#15), Anna Chakvetadze of Russia (#8), Ivo Karlovic of Argentina (#21), Daniella Hantuchova of China (#12) and Francesca Schiavone of Italy (#20).
Play begins on Saturday, August 9 at 9 a.m., Sunday, August 10 at 10 a.m. and Monday August 11 through Sunday August 17 at 11 a.m. The championship match is scheduled to begin at 11am. Admission to the outer court matches during the week is free. There is a featured center court match daily at 5 p.m. For the finals general admission seats are $10; shaded box seats are $25. All proceeds from the GHI Bronx Tennis Classic benefit the New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) which provides free tennis and educational programs to New York City youth reaching more than 100,000 children each year. Its programs encompass all skill levels and can be found in a variety of urban settings including school gyms, schoolyards, community centers and parks.
