Firefighters battled a raging five-alarm inferno in the Soundview section of the Bronx Sunday evening, where one firefighter suffered what is being considered “serious injuries.”

Shortly after 7 p.m., firefighters — 198 in total — responded to a call at 1420 Noble Ave. and were met with heavy fire in a top floor apartment that spread throughout a cockloft and into five other apartment units.

The heavy fire caused fire personnel to battle the blaze back from a defensive position as they tried to get it under control. Six hose lines and four tower ladders were needed to knock down the fire.

At least three floors suffered extensive smoke and water damage.

This devastating fire comes two weeks after a three-alarm fire destroyed a tire shop and a flower shop in Soundview.
