Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Union Community Health Center, along with several community partners, including Staples, New York Public Library and Food Bank For New York City, came together to celebrate National Health Center Week on Wednesday, Aug. 7 on East 188th Street.
Community members gathered and enjoyed the festivities, which included music, face painting, balloon art for kids, health education, screenings, raffles and giveaways. With the new school year approaching, Anthem supplied backpacks for kids in attendance.
Despite the fact that it was drizzling throughout much of the day of the event, plenty of people came out for the event, which ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Valentine and Tiebout Avenues.
Every August, the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) sponsors National Health Center Week (NHCW) to celebrate and increase awareness of the country’s 1,400 Community Health Centers (CHCs). National Health Center Week provides an opportunity to highlight the commitment and passion of Community Health Center staff, board members and supporters who make it possible to provide quality, comprehensive healthcare services to more than 31.5 million patients across nearly 15,000 communities in the United States annually.
