Daniel Silvera, a Bronx resident and community ambassador as well as an outreach specialist for the social services organization Bridge Builders Community Partnership, was honored with the “Making a Difference Award” during a holiday social on Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Reverend T. Wendell Foster Recreation Center, located at 1020 Jerome Ave.

Silvera was presented with a plaque in recognition of his exceptional contributions and unwavering dedication to the Bronx community. He is a familiar presence at local health fairs and food distribution events, where he actively engages with residents. In addition, Silvera is a regular participant in community board meetings and the nonprofit Guns Down, Life Up’s Circle of Safety meetings. His leadership was further acknowledged when he was appointed President of the City Council District 16 Multicultural Advisory Board by Council Member Althea Stevens.

“When I get a seat at a table, I am civically engaged, speaking up for people who feel society, systems, government and politicians let them down,” Silvera said.

During his acceptance speech, Silvera expressed his thanks to Bridge Builders Community Partnership Director Gabriela Silverio, who brought him into the organization and became a great mentor. He also thanked several of his coworkers at the organization, both in the past and present.

The Bridge Builders Community Partnership held the holiday social in partnership with the Hunts Point Community Partnership, a service and resource hub for members of the Hunts Point community, and the JCCA Mott Haven Community Partnership, which connects residents of the Mott Haven community to important resources.
