Lucky boosters of our Bronx YMCA got to sample food from some of the best restaurants in the borough during a gala event held featuring every kind of culinary delight imaginable.
The event, called Bon Appetit at the Bronx YMCA, allowed supporters to taste the best of the Bronx while supporting a worthy cause and taking in gorgeous views of the East River.
Thirty-two vendors partnered to offer food with proceeds from entrance fees donated to the Bronx YMCA on Tuesday, September 9.
Several hundred people attended the event at the Y located at 2 Castle Hill Avenue.
The event was sponsored in conjunction with the Latino Restaurant Association.
“The event was a win for us because it gave us the opportunity to introduce a sampling of cuisine from different restaurants to people who may not have had the chance to taste them, and also helped us to raise funds for our Strong Kids Campaign scholarship fund,” said Ortelio Bello, of the Bronx YMCA. “Now, it looks like no child who wants to attend any of our after-school, swim, membership, or other programs will be turned away because of monetary issues.”
Participating Bronx restaurants and vendors in the successful event included Patricia’s II, Patricia’s Morris Park, Pasta Pasta, Sabor Latino Seafood, Villa Barone, Rino’s Ristorante, Throggs Neck Clipper, Fiddler’s Elbow, Golden Glow Cookies, The Latin Kitchen, New Hawaii Sea, Delicioso Coco Helado, Joe’s Place, Hunts Point Fruit Market, Umberto’s Clam House, Frankie and Johnny’s, Salsa Catering, The Black Whale, The Harbor, La Parrilla, Tostobueno, Casa de Vinos, Soulfood, Pepsi Bottling Company of New York, Sports Plus Café, Quiznos, Soulfood, Marisco Centro, Louis Seafood Restaurant and Jadel’s Chocolate Creations.
Sponsors for the event were Verizon, The City University of New York, Con Edison, Citibank, Waste Management, The Children’s Aid Society, New York Fertilizer Company, Hostos Community College, Capital One Bank, Amerigroup, Classic Party Rental, and Northeast Hauling.
