On Monday, June 2, the students and staff at the Anna Cross Mersereau Intermediate School M.S. 206, 2280 Aqueduct Avenue, got a surprise donation from an unexpected source.

The Bob’s Discount Furniture Community Outreach Van delivered two laptop computers and a $500 check to the school after M.S. 206 was selected for the business’ “Random Act of Kindness” this month.

“I was completely surprised,” principal David Neering said.

Neering said he learned it was through parent coordinator Tracey Moret’s efforts to gather contributions for the event that Bob’s jumped on board with the generous gift.

“After recently kicking off our Community Outreach Van Program where we actually surprise needy organizations with donated items, I thought helping students by providing new technology and new computers was one of the most effective ways to promote a better education,” explained Cathy Poulin of Bob’s Discount Furniture.”

Agreeing completely, Neering said the computers have immensely helped the kids with their academic activities.

“From the daily writing and research projects to learning how to utilize relevant software, our students were very happy about the new additions to our classrooms,” Neering explained. He added the school would use the $500 to purchase additional software for the laptops.

Bob Kaufman, Bob’s Discount Furniture president, said he’s proud of outreach venture.

“From child and senior citizen support programs to wheelchair and educational supply campaigns, the Bob’s Discount Furniture Community Outreach Van is now ‘on the road’ in the tri-state region performing random acts of kindness,” Kaufman said.
