Notable Passing

The Throggs Neck Benevolent Association wishes to inform neighbors of the following notable passing.

With regret, we inform you of the passing of Joseph Santarpia.

Joe was a Bronx legend that made himself a sparkling reputation worldwide because of his dedication and professionalism.

Joe was a renowned amateur boxer in the Golden Gloves and captain of the American Boxing Team before injury forced him to refocus his career path and become a professional boxing referee and trainer.

Joe’s long career as a referee spanned from the 1970s into the 2000s, where he refereed title fights and some of the biggest names and fights in the world.

Joe was a proud family man, positive role model and he never did lose or forget his Bronx roots in the Throggs Neck community.

Our very deepest condolences to the Santarpia family and the many fans of Joe, may he Rest in Eternal Peace.
