The Bronx remained the home of some of the city’s top girls soccer teams.
None were able to bring home a postseason championship, but Riverdale and Bronx Science both reached their respective title games. The Falcons edged out Horace Mann to win the Ivy League crown and the Wolverines were the top seed in the PSAL playoffs before falling to rival Beacon in the final. Lehman was the borough’s biggest surprise, reaching the PSAL Class ‘B’ semifinals as the No. 13 seed. Preston and Cardinal Spellman both had strong seasons in the CHSAA.
Here are the players considered the best of the best in the Bronx:
All-Bronx Girls’ Soccer Player of the Year: Amaris Hemmings, Riverdale
The dynamic Hemmings wrote a great final chapter to her stellar fourth-year varsity career. The lightening quick forward scored more than 20 goals this season, including the winner in the semifinals to send Riverdale to the NYSAIS title game. Hemmings did so while being the focus of opponents’ defenses.
All-Bronx Girls’ Soccer Coach of the Year: Dayna Moneta, Lehman: The Lions featured just two seniors on the roster, but under Moneta’ guidance their young players grew up fast. Lehman went 10-3 during the regular season and reached the semifinals as the No. 13 seed, before fall to eventual city champion Math, Science and Engineering.

First Team
D Emma Carrillo, Spellman
Carrillo was the veteran leader of an inexperienced defense. She helped bring the group together quickly and made it one on the borough’s best units. Her strength and savvy made her tough to beat.
F Danae Dookhike, Cardinal Spellman
The senior is one of the most feared goal scorers in the CHSAA. Dookhike is smart with the ball at her feet and makes the most her chances. She helped lead Spellman to a second place finish.
D/M Gianna Finz, Bronx Science
Finz toughed her way through a torn ACL all season and took a different role by playing mostly on defense. That didn’t stop the senior from providing offense. She netted five goals and dished out three assists.
F Madeline Giannini, Preston
Giannini is one of the borough’s most dynamic scorers and really carried the load for the Panthers this season. The senior’s speed and foot skills allowed her to easily weave her way through opposing defenses for goals.
GK Jenny Kronish, Riverdale
Kronish is arguably the city’s best keeper and Division-I prospect at the position. The 6-foot-1 senior recorded 14 shutouts, including two in the post season. She was a key reason Riverdale reached the NYSAIS final.
M Courtney Taylor, Riverdale
The senior made things go for Riverdale team that dominated opponents. Taylor’s skill and strength allowed her to control play at midfield. She never missed a chance to swing momentum in the Falcons favor.
M/D Sydney Schulman, Bronx Science
Schulman did a little bit of everything for the Wolverines. She was a calming influence on the field, scored nine goals and dished out seven assists. Schulman could also drop back into the defense if need be.
F Alexandra Steir, Horace Mann
Steir has been a prolific scorer throughout her career at Horace Mann and continued to be as senior. She came up with countless big plays leading the Lions to a second play finish in the Ivy League.
D Sarah Tiffany, Riverdale
Tiffany has been a stalwart on the Falcons defense since her freshman year and this unit bay have been the best because of her leadership. The senior was always in the right sport and super dependable on ball defender.
D Rachel Trebech, Horace Mann
The Lions made a run at an Ivy League title thanks to Trebech’s efforts in the back. Her leadership and never wavering effort made the backbone of a defense that gave even the best offenses fits. The seniors’ presence will be missed.
F Lydia Wiener, Bronx Science
The may not have been a faster striker in the PSAL. The juniors’ wheels allowed he to put constant pressure on defenses. She scored 16 goals, including eight in the playoff and dished out 14 assists.
