Annual Gardeners’ Party

Sept. 21, 5 p.m.

Wave Hill has long served as a beacon to garden enthusiasts with its intimate gardens and framed vistas of the Hudson River and Palisades. This year’s annual Gardeners’ Party fundraiser promises to bring the horticultural community together in this stunning setting to honor renowned garden writer and podcaster Margaret Roach. Roach has been a champion of Wave Hill for decades and has served as both a member of the garden’s Board of Directors and chair of its Friends of Horticulture Committee.

 

The Riverdale Y Sunday Market

Riverdale Art Fest

Sept. 24, 10 a.m.

The first Riverdale Art Fest will add a thrilling component to the delicious food offerings that are a weekly staple of the Riverdale Y Sunday Market. The market is held each week in the Riverdale Temple parking lot at 4545 Independence Ave. (near 246th Street).

Designed to introduce talented Riverdale artists to their community and vice versa, the Riverdale Art Fest will fill the entire center aisle of the Market, featuring Riverdale artists’ extraordinary work in painting, photography, drawing, watercolor, spin art, acrylics, three-dimensional art and more.

Opening reception: Michael Richards: Are You down?

Sept. 8, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

Join us to celebrate the opening of the exhibition Michael Richards: Are You Down? This event will include light refreshments and music provided by Uptown Vinyl Supreme. RSVP is not required to attend.

 

Bronx Zoo

Pumpkin Nights at the Bronx Zoo

Sept. 28 -Oct. 29, 6-10 p.m. Last entry is at 9 p.m. 

Pumpkin Nights at the Bronx Zoo, with more than 5,000 carved, animal-themed pumpkins over a half-mile jack-o’-lantern trail, will debut Thursday, Sept. 28 with live pumpkin carving demonstrations, games, festive fall treats and food trucks and fun for all ages. 

Tickets are $34.95 for adults 12 and up, and $24.95 for children ages 3-12 on Thursdays and Sundays, and $36.95 for adults and $26.95 for children on Fridays and Saturdays. Children under 3 are free. Wildlife Conservation Society members will receive a 40% discount.

 

New York Botanical Garden

Ebony G. Patterson exhibition “…things come to thrive…in the shedding…in the molting…”

Aug. to Sept. 17, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Ebony G. Patterson brings her signature mixed media installations to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and NYBG’s landscape and galleries. Immerse yourself in the beauty of exotic flora and garden-inspired installations, such as a peacock sculpture and glitter-encrusted vultures. Patterson’s work invites visitors to reflect on their relationships with the natural world while also provoking questions around race, gender and colonialism. NYBG Fall-O-Ween

Sept. 16 through Nov. 12

The New York Botanical Garden becomes the region’s pumpkin headquarters during NYBG Fall-O-Ween, offering a fun and engaging array of activities, programs, and photo opportunities for all ages. Experience hundreds of pumpkins and gourds on display; food and beverage talks, demonstrations and tastings; and two family-friendly Spooky Garden Nights, offering Halloween-themed entertainment for adults and children alike. Fan favorite Adam Bierton returns to NYBG to create his intricate and nature-inspired pumpkin carvings and to host a master carver competition.

Once again, the Botanical Garden is the place to see giant pumpkins during the last two weeks of October, culminating in the exciting Giant Pumpkin Carving Weekend.

Weekend Beer Garden

Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 29

Every weekend through October, enjoy seasonal brews on tap at the Visitor Center’s Beer Garden, at the Hudson Garden Grill Bar and at pop-ups across the Garden grounds. Sip on seasonal IPAs, stouts, and lagers from local Bronx breweries, chill out with a frozen apple cider cocktail, and snack on a variety of savory and sweet treats.

Enjoy a beer or two at any one location, or take flight across the Garden by purchasing tickets redeemable for additional draft beers at locations throughout the grounds. For heartier fare, sit down at the Hudson Garden Grill, featuring fall-inspired farm-to-table dishes, or stop by the Pine Tree Café for artisanal panini, Neapolitan-style pizza and signature salads.

Fall Foliage

Explore the largest remaining expanse of New York’s original wooded landscape as the Thain Family Forest’s seasonal transformation takes hold. 

Farmers Market

Every Wednesday through Oct. 18, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Visit the New York Botanical Garden Farmers Market to enjoy locally grown produce, baked goods and other speciality items. The NYBG’s farmers market is one of the top 10 farmers markets in NYC, and it is located near the Mosholu entrance. Find out more here.

 

Bronx Summit

Saturday, Sept. 23, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

This is an opportunity for the next generation of Bronx creatives to gain the tools, insight and resources to further their creative journey. Free concert: Bardekova Ensemble

Since 1982, the Bardekova Ensemble has been bringing free or reduced price concerts to the Bronx. Members of the group have performed with such powerhouses as the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera. Among other notable music organizations, the Bardekova Ensemble has played with the Goldovsky Opera Company and the Steve Reich Ensemble.

The diverse program will feature songs by Woodlawn music legends—Miles Davis’s “Boplicity,” Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean A Thing,” and Celia Cruz’s hit “La Negra Tiene Tumbao.” To purchase tickets, click here.

Birthplace of Popular Music – Tin Pan Alley Tour

Sept. 17, 2 p.m.

Located on West 28th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenue, Tin Pan Alley was the birthplace of American popular music. At the turn of the 20th century, it was here that music was created and promoted. Famous Tin Pan Alley artists include Irving Berlin, George M. Cohan, Gus Edwards and Nora Bayes. Our Tin Pan Alley Tour will give a glimpse into what has become a worldwide cultural force – pop music. Join Woodlawn’s Director of Historical Services Susan Olsen and Director of the Tin Pan Alley American Popular Music Project George Calderaro for a unique Trolley Tour that will explore the popular music publishing center of the world, and the brilliant composers, performers, and “pluggers” who made Tin Pan Alley.
