Tragedy on Zerega leads to youth’s death

A police investigation is ongoing in Zerega where a young male was killed earlier this month.

On Friday, August 7, in response to a 9-11 call, police discovered Louis Gonzalez, shot in front of 1602 Zerega Avenue.

The 22-year-old was found at 1:17 a.m., and had sustained gunshots wounds to the head, chest and stomach.

According to police reports, Gonzalez was pronounced dead by EMS on route to Jacobi Medical Center at approximately 1:52 a.m.

The wake was held last week at Rivera Funeral Home, and burial in St. Raymond’s Cemetery on Friday.

Neighbors suspect foul play in the matter, stating that murders are not a common occurrence in the area and that the attack seemed directed.

Police have made no arrests at this time and are continuing the investigation.

A memorial has been set up on Zerega Avenue, where those close to Gonzalez have placed flowers, candles, and other memorabilia to honor his memory.
