Actor, comedian, and native Bronxite Tracy Morgan will host a pop-up food distribution at 955 Tinton Ave. at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday for NYCHA residents in the Bronx.
Morgan will donate one thousand bags of food, 500 with shelf-stable groceries like pasta, rice, corn, and milk, and 500 with fresh produce to promote Hunger Action Month with the Food Bank For New York City.
As the cost of food and rent increase, 1 in 3 families in New York City struggle financially. In the Bronx, 39% of adults reported being frequently worried about where they were going to get their next meal, according to a report by the New York State Department of Health. This was the highest reported rate of food insecurity in the five boroughs.
The Food Bank for New York City worked with over 800 soup kitchens, food pantries and campus partners to bring New Yorkers immediate access to free food and nutritional education. September is Hunger Action Month where the Food Bank For New York City and food programs all over the US aim to raise awareness and encourage action to fight hunger and food insecurity.
For Bronxites experiencing food insecurity, Hunter College Food Policy Center offers a free food resource guide by NYC neighborhood.
