Last Friday, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson presented a $500,000 capital grant to the developers of Claremont House, an affordable housing development that will create 66 new homeownership opportunities for low-income families in the Bronx.

Gibson visited the site and presented the capital grant to Karen Haycox, CEO of Habitat NYC and Westchester, and Rick Gropper, principal at Camber Property Group, who are partnering on the project.

The project — which will begin the ULURP process in June — will result in an eight-story, 100% residential building offering 66 affordable home ownership opportunities. Each home will be affordable to households earning up to $93,000 for a family of three, and all are fitted with a balcony and installation for washer and dryer units.

Communal amenities for residents include a rear yard, community room, wellness gym and hydroponic center. Additionally, as a part of the development, homeownership education and assistance will be provided to first-time home buyers and residents whose applications have been denied.

The development is a partnership between the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, Habitat for Humanity New York City and Westchester County, Camber Property Group and the Almat Urban and Interboro Community Land Trust (CLT). The development partnership, in which the land is held by the CLT in perpetuity, ensures that the apartments will remain affordable.
