Screening of Maria Carolina Telles’ “You Are Not a Soldier”

Director Maria Carolina Telles’ film “You Are Not a Soldier” captures award-winning war photographer André Liohn’s life on the frontlines and his dueling responsibilities as a father. This Saturday, Liohn joins Telles at the Bronx Documentary Center to present the documentary and host a Q&A about the fractured landscape of conflict photography.

Conversations and Crafts with Angela Shanté

Join Bronxite and author Angela Shanté for a (virtual) author reading of her debut young adult title The Unboxing of a Black Girl and a post-reading crafting session. Attendees will make collages based on vignettes from the text visualizing their ideal coming months. Expect to experiment creatively and talk lit.

Kids Advanced/Intermediate Hip-Hop Class

Free trial class; then, $75 for 4 classes or $120 for unlimited classes
Nieves Latin Dance Studio’s summer semester which kicked off July 13 is continuing its dance class scheduling with an advanced/intermediate hip hop class for kids ages 8 and up. Class attendees will learn high-energy hip hop moves–the makings of a quintessential Nieves routine.

Latin American Foto Festival and Block Party

The Bronx Documentary Center hosts their Latin American Foto Festival this Sunday. The celebration will feature dance performances from Ballet Folklorico de Ramon Romero and live music from Mexican, Colombian, Chilean and Peruvian groups. In addition to these musical festivities, the Foto Festival will include free portraits, face painting, arts and crafts, a waterslide, bounce castle and more.
