Bronxites got to spend a warm summer-like Sunday afternoon jamming along to Remy Ma’s 2006 hit single “Conceited” while enjoying tasty treats by dozens of vendors. On May 17, the Bronx Borough President, alongside the Bronx Tourism Council hosted the Bronx Week’s Finale Concert.
Held in Mosholu Parkway between Bainbridge and Van Cortlandt Avenues, the concert was held in conjunction with the Bronx Week’s Food and Arts Festival.

“This highly anticipated event […] creates a vibrant and engaging experience for all attendees. Featuring renowned artists and local talent, the concert highlights the rich diversity, creativity, and energy that define the Bronx,” a flyer for Bronx Week read.
Bronx Week – which was originally cancelled due to the city’s budget deficit and broader fiscal issues – focuses on the borough as a whole, celebrating the culture under the theme, “The Bronx Leads.”

“This year, under the theme “The Bronx Leads,” we honor the people, institutions, and communities that continue to lead the way and shape the future of our borough,” said Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson.
Performances were given by two-time Grammy winner and Salsa musician Rey De La Paz; The Special Occasion Band Featuring Melissa Jones; Viti Ruiz, Puerto-Rican singer and younger brother to famous Salsa singer Frankie Ruiz; and Grupo Tipico Radhames Rodriguez. The headliner of the afternoon was Remy Ma, a Bronx-born rapper who was once a member of the rap group “Terror Squad.”

Remy Ma stunned guests with her songs, singing hits such as “Conceited” and Fat Joe’s “Lean Back,” in which she was featured in. She hyped up the crowd, thanking Borough President Gibson for her work and highlighting achievements done by the Bronx.
Her 30 minute minute set was spent joking with guests and singing her hits with the crowd dancing to her music. DJ Ralph Mercado – who played songs in between sets – would adlib with Remy Ma, amping up the crowd in celebration of the conclusion of Bronx Week.
