Notable Passing

Emma Damm passed away at the age of 86 on Saturday, July 27.

Patti Chucka, Emma’s daughter, submitted to the following to the Bronx Times:

Emma was the past president of the American Turner Club of NY and has also been a member of the D.A. Beach Club since age 18.

She was born and raised in Throggs Neck. She is a local icon who basically knows everyone. She was voted Throggs Neck woman of the year in 2003.

My daughter Nicole Schiaffo, her only living grand daughter and I have been trying to meeting all her wishes: bag pipes at her funeral Mass, a party at the D.A. Beach Club after her funeral, and being buried with her granddaughter Danielle Chucka who passed away on February 23, 2006.

Pet Food Giveaway

Forgotten Chances Animal Rescue, a locally based pet rescuer, will be holding a pet food and supply giveaway planned for Saturday, August 11 at Paulding Avenue between Astor and Waring avenues in the Pelham Parkway Houses.

Forgotten Chances’ Gail Neuendorf, who is hosting the event with Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez and Nobody Starves on Long Island estimated that upwards of 100 to 400 bags of food as well as other supplies would be distributed.

The goal of the planned event is to keep animals and their owners together and prevent animal surrenders due to financial reasons.
