If you are from the Bonx or just love the only borough connected to the mainland – then there’s a new website that you should bookmark in Google Chrome.

Last week, television host Gary Axelbank launched his new web portal, thisistheBronX.info, the newest online source for information only about the Bronx.

The web portal launched during last week’s annual ten-day festival of Bronx Week on Wednesday, May 17 on the third floor of Bronx Coworks, 2825 Third Avenue.

The launch of the web portal is the first of two phases that the website will undergo in the next few months.

Last week’s debut of thisistheBronX.info couldn’t have come on the scene at a better time – given that all-Bronx media platforms are a rarity.

The web portal features everything from a Bronx-only news feed, calendar of events as well databases of important Bronx information for categories including the latest Bronx news, restaurants, nightlife, arts and culture, businesses, real estate, shopping and more.

With this interactive media platform, visitors will be able to post their favorite Bronx photos and pictures of their latest artwork, upload events to appear on the events calendar and even get their favorite business, group or organization a free listing on the website, by emailing info@thisisthebronx.info.

“I started this because I want to provide the knowledge I have of the Bronx to others while also helping everyone learn more about the borough – under one platform,” said Gary Axelbank, also the television host of BronxNet’s BronxTalk, with over 20 years of experience in television. “With this new concept – everything you need to know about the Bronx is in one convenient place, as opposed to checking numerous sources for information. Figuratively and literally, this is the Bronx!”

Axelbank, who was also a radio DJ and personality for 15 years, said that the website listings will be frequently updated and that new features for the website will continue to be created. He also said that Bronx businesses will have substantial opportunities to economically benefit from the site, including space for web advertisers.

“The Bronx is the hub for so many things – but until now, they may have not known about all that this borough has to offer,” said Patricia Collazo, a junior at Lehman College who is the web portal’s coordinator of content strategies and majors in computer information systems. “This website has many categories to choose from but only one focus – the Bronx.”

Collazo, also a blogger, said that her time spent working on the web portal has taught her more about WordPress and other website techniques since the process began for her in April.

“This has been a great opportunity for me – and I have learned a lot from Gary and a very experienced team. I am looking forward to spending more time working on the second phase.”

The letters ‘B’ and ‘X’ in the website’s URL are capitalized to put more emphasis on the abbreviated name of the borough.

The second phase of thisistheBronX.info, which will take place in the fall, will highlight current event topics such as education, government and communities, health care, housing, immigrations, jobs and careers as well as resources for families.

Future plans for the website include an active social media presence, as well as a mobile app.
