Lincoln Medical Center was named a 2025 High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care by U.S. News & World Report on Wednesday. The South Bronx hospital earned high marks for avoiding unnecessary C-sections and episiotomies, as well as achieving high rates of vaginal births after C-sections.

NYC Health + Hospitals Chief Women’s Health Officer Wendy Wilcox congratulated the staff and leadership at Lincoln, along with three other NYC Health + Hospitals that gained the designation.

“This honor shows not only how well our teams collaborate in caring for patients, but also how well our clinicians provide equitable care in the face of complex clinical cases, and needs of behavioral and social determinants of health,” said Wilcox.

Lincoln Medical Center provides patient care and consultations for around 1,500 deliveries a year. As the first Baby-Friendly designated hospital in the Bronx, Lincoln Medical Center’s maternity programs demonstrate the best practices for baby feeding and mother/infant bonding. It also earned a Birthing-Friendly designation by adding patient safety practices to improve health outcomes.

The infant mortality rate in Bronx County stands at 5.2 per 1,000 live births, exceeding both the citywide rate of 3.2 and the statewide rate of 4.2, according to data from the New York State Department of Health.

The other NYC Health + Hospitals locations named in the list are Bellevue Hospital, Woodhull Hospital and Elmhurst Hospital.
