A select few Bronx precincts saw major declines in crime over the most recent 28-day period, according to the NYPD’s latest crime stats released April 8.

The 43rd Precinct was the only precinct to see a decline in every major crime listed by the NYPD for this time period, with the exception of murder, which remained at a steady zero for this period both in 2023 and 2024.

Burglaries dropped the most significantly out of all of the major crimes in this precinct, falling from 27 cases last year to 11 this year, marking a nearly 60% decline.  Cases of rape dropped by two, resulting in a 40% decline, and grand larceny auto crimes fell from 41 to 29 — a nearly 30% decline as compared to this time period last year. Robberies, felony assaults and grand larcenies all also saw significant declines.  The 43rd Precinct includes Westchester Avenue, Castle Hill Avenue, White Plains Road and Parkchester.

The 43rd wasn’t the only precinct to see declines in major crime during this period. The 50th Precinct — including Riverdale, Fieldston, Kingsbridge, Marble Hill and Spuyten Duyvil — also saw drops in all major crimes listed by the NYPD, with the exception of grand larcenies, which rose from 55 to 56.

Both murders and rapes dropped to zero in this time period and grand larceny auto crimes neither increased or decreased but remained the same at 23. One of the most notable drops in crime in this precinct is of robberies, which nearly halved (a 43.8% decline). Felony assaults and burglaries both fell by about 15%.

The 41st Precinct also saw some formidable declines during this 28-day period, but also saw a significant increase in grand larcenies — a 60% increase when compared to last year). However, grand larceny auto crimes dropped by nearly 75%, falling from 39 last year to 10 this year.  Additionally, burglaries also dropped by 45.5%, and robberies and felony assaults dropped by less than 11%. Murders remained the same at zero cases both this year and last, but rape incidents increased  by one. This precinct includes Hunts Point and Longwood.

Felony assaults, burglaries and grand larcenies all saw significant declines within the confines of the 47th Precinct. Grand larcenies dropped from 80 to 51 — a 36.2% decline as compared to last year. Felony assaults and burglaries both similarly dropped by about 30% and murders dropped from one to zero. Grand larceny auto crimes remained the same at a stable 37 cases. This precinct includes Woodlawn, Wakefield, Williamsbridge, Baychester, Edenwald, Olinville, Fishbay and Woodlawn Cemetery.

Murders either decreased or remained the same in every precinct except the 46th Precinct, which saw a jump from zero to four. The 46th Precinct includes Fordham, University Heights, Morris Heights and Mount Hope.

Notably, the 49th Precinct saw a 500% increase in cases of rape, jumping from one case to six. This precinct includes Allerton, Morris Park, Van Nest, Pelham Parkway, Eastchester Gardens and Pelham Gardens.

The only other precinct to see six cases of rape during this time period was the 47th Precinct, which saw five during this time period last year. Not far behind are the 44th and 52nd precincts, both with five cases of rape during this 28-day period as reported by the NYPD.
