New York City Council Member Kristy Marmorato joined forces with the Bronx-based nonprofit Open Hand Association Inc., an organization committed to supporting individuals impacted by natural disasters, homelessness, or special needs, to host a Three Kings Day celebration and toy distribution at its food pantry at 821 Lydig Ave. on Monday, Jan. 6.

Marmorato and the Open Hand Association Inc. welcomed community members with hot chocolate and sweet treats as they entered the space, while also distributing toys to children of all ages on a first-come, first-served basis.

Marmorato, who represents New York City’s 13th Council District, emphasized the importance of giving back to the Northeast Bronx community, drawing on her experiences as a mother and her dedication to supporting local children. She expressed joy at seeing so many happy faces during the event.

The event also featured a Traditional Rosca de Reyes, also known as the King’s Cake, as part of the Three Kings Day celebration. This cake is a donut-shaped sweet bread topped with colorful candied fruit and contains a hidden plastic figurine of Baby Jesus. The event started with a prayer and was closed with a prayer.
