City Council Member Althea Stevens, NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health Regional Administrator Claudia Williams, and Gotham Health, Morrisania Associate Director of Nursing Sydonie Clementson celebrate $150,000 in city funds to support medical technological updates for exam rooms at Gotham Health, Morrisania

NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health announced earlier this month a significant financial boost for its Morrisania facility, made possible by the efforts of City Council Member Althea Stevens, who secured $150,000 in city funding to enhance infrastructure and patient services, with a focus on advancing medical technology across 50 exam rooms.

The funding will equip the Morrisania location with state-of-the-art, space-saving, wall-mounted integrated units, which include vital sign machines for blood pressure, pulse rate, pulse oximeter readings, and temperature checks, all seamlessly integrated into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. The updates aim to speed up patient appointments while providing a more streamlined and personalized experience.

“On behalf of NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health and the community, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Council Member Althea Stevens for her support in securing $150,000 in funding for critical infrastructure improvements,” said Gotham Health CEO Michelle Lewis. “The generous funding will strengthen our commitment to providing high-quality and patient-centered care to patients who deserve access to state-of-the-art comprehensive care.”

Stevens emphasized the importance of these upgrades in tackling the Bronx’s health challenges.

“Far too often, we hear about how the Bronx ranks 62nd [out of the state’s 62 counties] as the most unhealthy place, but we must shift the narrative by making tangible investments where they are needed the most. I’m proud to have secured $150,000 for technology upgrades for 50 patient service rooms, to continue to provide access to high-quality primary care for Bronx residents.”

She continued, “I’m honored to continue working with Gotham Health, Morrisania, as the medical field is constantly evolving, and partnerships like this ensure that we stay ahead of the curve and build a healthier future for our community.”

Roman Ryniewski, Chief of Infrastructure and Support Services at Gotham Health, echoed the sentiment: “We are deeply grateful to Council Member Althea Stevens for awarding this capital funding to upgrade our infrastructure and expand our services for our community. This financial support is crucial to our mission of continually improving medical services and facilities to better serve our patients.”

This funding follows a series of recent achievements at Gotham Health, Morrisania. Earlier this year, the facility’s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program received the USDA Gold Breastfeeding Award of Excellence 2023, recognizing its outstanding breastfeeding promotion and support. Additionally, Gotham Health, Morrisania installed a new bone density scanner to assess bone fracture risks and a state-of-the-art 3D mammogram machine for improved breast cancer detection.
