The Franciscan Handmaids of the Most Pure Heart of Mary, Inc., one of only three orders of mostly black nuns in the United States, celebrated a century of ministry and service on Saturday, October 8 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Harlem.
His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan presided over the Mass commemorating the order’s centennial year and initiating its second century with plans of expanding the St. Benedict’s Day Nursery, St. Edward Food Pantry and enrollment.
