Brief: Bronx BP hosts third annual Dominican Heritage Month celebration

On Feb. 22, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson hosted the third annual Dominican Heritage Month celebration to honor Bronx leaders who represent the Dominican community and culture with integrity.

Honorees included Altagracia Villalona; founder of Don Carvajal Café Hector Carvajal; Board Certified Internist with NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln Carmen Oviedo Hilario; 2024 finalist in the Finalista Al Premio Nacional De La Juventud in the Dominican Republic Steven Monegro Gilbert; State Assemblymember, Registered Nurse and frontline worker during COVID-19 Karines Reyes and first Latino Executive Chef for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line German Eladio Rijo. Xiara Cruz from the Bronx School of Law and Finance received the Youth Award.

The event was in partnership with the Dominican Republic Consulate of New York.
