Zeta Charter Schools partnered with the Ballet Hispánico to host a special Hispanic Heritage Month event on Monday, Sept. 30.
The event featured performances by Noche Flamenca, one of the leading flamenco dance companies in the world. Through these performances, Zeta Charter Schools students were immersed in a dynamic blend of music, dance and storytelling.
“At Noche Flamenca, it is a true joy to share even a small piece of Spanish culture with students from the Bronx, one of the most multicultural places in the world,” Noche Flamenca Production Coordinator Gabriela Goldin Garcia said. “Flamenco holds deep significance for us, as it comes from a minority community in Spain and speaks out against oppression. Being able to share this art form with the students, seeing them connect to the rhythm and dance with such enthusiasm, has been incredibly rewarding.”
Zeta Charter Schools is a high-performing, whole-child charter school network that serves students ranging from pre-K through seventh grade across seven schools in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan. Noche Flamenca’s performances at the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration allowed many of the students, particularly those from kindergarten to seventh grade, to experience the powerful artistry of flamenco while also amplifying the school’s commitment to diversity and fostering a deep appreciation for Hispanic culture.
“At Zeta, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where our students can celebrate and explore their diverse cultural identities,” Zeta Charter Schools Founder and CEO Emily A. Kim said. “Today’s event with Ballet Hispánico featuring Noche Flamenca performances was an incredible opportunity for our students to connect with Hispanic heritage through the powerful art forms of music, dance and storytelling. It’s experiences like these that inspire our students and help build a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural fabric of our community and city.”
