Pro Wrestling Comes to St. Francis Xavier

Tickets are selling fast for a much anticipated wrestling event at St. Francis Xavier.

The fundraiser for the school and parish will be hosted by the St. Francis Xavier Father’s Club, said Peter Lisanti.

New Jersey-based East Coast Pro Wrestling will provide family-friendly wrestling entertainment with former professional wrestling stars and up and coming wrestlers as well.

“Wrestling has always been a very popular sport amongst younger generations and adults too,” Lisanti said.

“Being able to bring this type of event into the school is a great way for families to come out together and enjoy an exciting night.”

The event will be held in the school’s gymnasium on 1711 Haight Avenue on Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m, with part of the proceeds going towards the school and parish.

Some of professional wrestling’s biggest names from the past will be present, such as Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, who during the 1980s was a household name as he competed in the famous World Wrestling Federation, which is currently known as the World Wrestling Entertainment.

Snuka will be competing that night and a total of seven matches will take place.

After the matches are over, ticket holders will be able to meet the wrestlers, take pictures with them and have autographs signed.

“It certainly will be a fun night for all of the kids in the school, as well as their families,” said Fr. Matthew Furey, Pastor of Xavier.

“Most of the wrestling that the kids see on television can be bad, but the ECPW will provided safe, family-oriented entertainment for everyone. I will be attending and I am really looking forward to it.”

“When I was a young student, all my friends and I talked about was wrestling,” said Gino Raguso, class of 2005 and current junior varsity basketball coach at Xavier.

“I often hear my players talk about wrestling events and all I can think about was how excited we used to get when we were kids. This is going to be great for the school.”

Tickets are $25 each and are available at the school’s rectory on 1703 Lurting Avenue or by calling Peter Lisanti at (646) 423-5412.
