Police Beat | Four Bronx precincts experience spikes in most major crimes

Crime stats are split across the borough in the most recent recorded time period.

When comparing the NYPD’s crime statistics for Bronx police precincts in the 28-day period from Feb. 5 to March 3, 2024, with statistics from the same time time period a year ago, four of the borough’s 12 precincts saw a spike in most major crimes.

Crimes rose by as much as 75% in the 52nd Precinct, which is the case for rapes in this time period which spiked from four to seven.  This precinct includes Bedford Park, Fordham, Kingsbridge, Norwood, Bronx Park and University Heights.  Robberies, felony assaults, burglaries and grand larceny auto crimes all increased to some extent, with the less extreme of those being with grand larceny auto crimes, which saw only a 4% increase.  However, burglaries rose by 46.7.% in this time period, and robberies were not far behind at 32.3%.  The only major crime that saw a decrease in this precinct was grand larcenies, which dropped by 20%.

In the 49th Precinct — which includes Allerton, Morris Park, Van Nest, Pelham Parkway, Eastchester Gardens and Pelham Gardens — crime fell as much as 116.2%, which is the case for grand larcenies in this time period due to a jump from 37 to a whopping 80.  Other crimes increased in this precinct too, such as burglaries, which rose by 60%, and robberies, which rose by 30.8%.  The only major crime that did not increase in this precinct was murder, which remained at a stable zero compared to this time period last year.

For the 48th Precinct, which includes Arthur Avenue, the Cross Bronx Expressway and Crotona Park form the southern border, things were split.  Most major crimes did rise by as much as 81.2%, which is the case for robberies, but some crimes decreased just as extremely.  Murders dropped from four to zero in this time period, and grand larceny auto crimes dropped by a notable 35.5%. However, felony assaults, burglaries, and grand larcenies all saw significant spikes.

Some precincts saw almost unanimous declines in major crime during this time period, such as the 43rd Precinct.  Crime fell by as much as 66.7% in this precinct, which is the case for rapes.  Other crimes fell to varying degrees: grand larcenies decreased by a lesser 12.3%, but grand larceny auto crimes decreased by almost 30%.  This precinct includes Westchester Avenue, Castle Hill Avenue, White Plains Road and Parkchester.

Similarly, crimes fell as much as 66.7% in the 44th Precinct, which is the case for grand larceny auto crimes in this time period.  Burglaries fell by an impressive 56.4% in this time period and precinct, and cases of rapes and robberies fell by nearly just as much.  The 44th Precinct includes Grand Concourse, Bronx Terminal Market and Yankee Stadium.
