A person was fatally struck by a train near the 3rd Avenue-149th Street subway station early Wednesday morning, causing significant disruptions on multiple subway lines, according to officials.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m., when a southbound No. 2 train struck the individual, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the FDNY and NYPD confirmed.

The incident led to delays on the Nos. 2, 3, 4, and 5 subway lines, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Service on the Nos. 2 and 5 lines was especially affected, with southbound trains ending service at East 180th Street and limited service available to Jackson Avenue.

Between Jackson Avenue and 149th Street-Grand Concourse, there were no southbound No. 5 trains running, and southbound No. 2 service was suspended between Jackson Avenue and 135th Street. Northbound trains were also impacted, with No. 5 trains terminating at 149th Street-Grand Concourse and No. 2 trains ending at various stations, including Times Square-42nd Street, 137th Street-City College, or Harlem-148th Street.

The MTA advised riders to use alternate routes, including the Nos. 1, 3, 4, and 6 trains in Manhattan and the Nos. 3 and 4 trains in Brooklyn, while crews worked to restore service. Full service resumed later in the morning, but residual delays lingered.
