A 65-year-old Bronx woman was killed by an NYPD SUV and other pedestrians were injured in a collision on Oct. 6, 2022, cops revealed Wednesday.

The police on April 3 reported that more than two years ago, a marked NYPD Ford Explorer occupied by two male officers was hit by another vehicle at the intersection of Hoe Avenue and Westchester Avenue in Longwood while they were responding to a live auto larceny assignment. The NYPD drivers allegedly lost control when their car was smacked, the report stating that the vehicle “was then redirected and mounted the sidewalk” at the northeast corner Westchester and Hoe Avenue — hitting “several pedestrians before coming to a final rest.”

Bonet Milagros, 65, was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals Lincoln after the crash and pronounced dead about seven months later on May 4, 2023. According to cops, she lived in a building only one stoplight north of the site of the crash.

CBS reported at the time of the incident that 10 people total, including two children — ages 2 and 5 — were victims of the NYPD vehicle crash. All 10, including Milagros, were expected to survive at the time of the incident.

In 2023, there were 5,545 total reported crashes in the Bronx, according to data from NYC Crash Mapper. Those incidents resulted in 41 total deaths — 26 motorists, 12 pedestrians and three cyclists — and nearly 8,000 injuries. The data portal doesn’t have a vehicle filter for NYPD automobiles specifically.

So far in the Bronx this year, there have already been 1,708 crashes resulting in 2,454 injuries and 12 deaths. That’s more than the total crashes recorded in Manhattan (1,680) so far this year, but less than those reported in Brooklyn (3,713) and Queens (3,311). Citywide, there have been more than 16,000 crash injuries already this year, and 82 deaths.

The nonprofit advocacy organization Transportation Alternatives reported earlier this year that New York City’s deadliest street for pedestrians is in the Bronx — East 138th Street. The roadway spans just more than 1.5 miles and had a reported 12 deaths between 2014 and 2023.
